Usually people think that everything is public in the web.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nI&#8217;m posting about this app <a href=\"http:\/\/bits.blogs.nytimes.com\/2012\/03\/30\/girls-around-me-ios-app-takes-creepy-to-a-new-level\/\">Girls around me<\/a>, because I think that privacy issues are important. Apple removed the app on last Saturday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.abo.fi\/internetcultureandgender\/files\/girlsaroundme1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-154\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.abo.fi\/internetcultureandgender\/files\/girlsaroundme1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.abo.fi\/internetcultureandgender\/files\/girlsaroundme1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.abo.fi\/internetcultureandgender\/files\/girlsaroundme1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The idea of the app is that the user can see women near by when logged in. Application gatheres GPS location data and puts it in Google map and merges Facebook and Foursquare data. If the Facebook privacy settings are &#8220;less computer-affable&#8221; (not strict enough) all the photos and private information are also visible in the Girls around me application.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nWeb culture is about being visible in the web. However, I think there is a difference when it is done by the user, and when there is a software gathering information with out consent. I don&#8217;t like the idea that if you can not protect yourself in the web, it&#8217;s perfectly fine to misuse the personal information.
