The Future of the World Heritage Convention – a Nordic perspective
WHILD/Vasa 2011
The Second International WHILD Conference on the World Heritage Research will be organised by Åbo Akademi University in Vasa, Finland, December 14th to 16th, 2011. Prior to the conference, December 13th, a PhD seminar day will be arranged.
The conference is arranged in co-operation with the WHILD research network (The World Heritage: Global Discourse and Local Implementation) established 2003 at Dalarna University, Sweden. The aim of the WHILD/Vasa 2011 conference is to analyse the meaning, impact and future of World Heritages.
We welcome PhD students from all countries to present relevant parts of their PhD research and/or their current World Heritage work. Both empirical and theoretical studies will be accepted.
The seminar will be divided into two groups depending on the substance of the papers. The session(s) will be chaired by two specialists in the field Dr Jan Turtinen Senior Adviser at the Swedish National Heritage Board and Scientific Officer Barbara Engels [pdf] from the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation in Germany.
Submission
The Organising Committee invites PhD students to submit abstracts of their PhD work in progress. Abstracts should be maximum 300 words long and submitted to the organising committee by 20.11.2011 to whildvasa@abo.fi.
A full paper should be submitted on the 1st of December for distribution to all participants of the PhD seminar on the 13th of December. Papers should be max. 3500-4000 words long.
