Professor Christodoulos Floudas from Princeton University, USA, will recieve an honorary doctorate degree at Åbo Akademi University’s conferral ceremony on May 23, 2014. Professor Floudas is a member of the International Scientific Panel of the OSE research group.

Jan Kronqvist has been accepted as PhD student in the OSE group as of January 2014. His research is connected to extensions of the Extended cutting plane (ECP) algorithm for solving convex MINLP problems and in supervised by professor Tapio Westerlund.

Techniques based on graph theory was the central topic of the plenary lectures given at the annual seminar in Optimization and Systems Engineering 2013 by professor Leo Liberty from École polytechnique in Paris, France, currently active at IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in New York, USA. Professor Liberti is also a member of the OSE group’s International Scientific Panel. The 2013 seminar took place at Forum Marinum, Turku on November 15th.

The paper “A reformulation framework for global optimization” by Andreas Lundell, Anders Skjäl and Tapio Westerlund was included in the Top 5 list of papers in Journal of Global Optimization, one of the leading journals in the field of global optimization.

Johan Pensar was accepted as a PhD student in the OSE group starting from July 2013. His thesis has the topic “Context specific graphical models and their applications” and is supervised by professor Jukka Corander at the Department of Mathematics.

Post doctoral researcher Andreas Lundell and PhD student Axel Nyberg participated in the 10th International Conference on Integration of Artificial Intelligence and Operations Research Techniques in Constraint Programming (CPAIOR) organized at IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, New York, USA, 18-22 May 2013. Plenary speakers included Ralph Gomory, one of the most known researchers in integer programming.
