Guided walk in historical Turku

For those who wish to take part in a guided walk along the Aura River to get to know the history of the city a tour of ca. one hour is arranged on Wednesday 25.6. The tour starts from Turku Cathedral (the grand stairs at the front, see the campus map) at 18.30 and ends at the Donner Institute just in time for the reception.

Reception

The conference participants are welcomed to the Donner Institute for an informal Welcome Reception on Wednesday 25.6 at 19.30. There will also be an opportunity to acquaint oneself with the Donner Library, which hosts the largest collection of books and journals on religion in the Nordic countries. The Donner Institute is located on Biskopsgatan/Piispankatu 13 (marked with green on the campus map).

Excursion

On Thursday 26.6 at 19.00, we will go for a cruise on the Steamship Ukkopekka to the island of Loistokari in the archipelago outside Turku. The cruise is an excellent way to enjoy the evening sun: on 26 June, the sun rises at 4.03 and sets at 23.04 in Turku!

The ship leaves from the Aura River, in front of the restaurant Vaakahuoneen paviljonki in the address Slottsgatan/Linnankatu 38. Please see the city map in you conference folder, or ask the Donner Institute staff for advice if you are unsure of how to find your way. After arriving at Loistokari, we are served a dinner buffet inspired by the Finnish archipelago, including lots of fish, barbeque – and live music. The excursion is included in the conference fee.

Please note that the evening can get cold out at sea, even if it is light, so please bring a jacket and comfortable shoes. We return at 23.00.
