Holocaust Memorial Day, Minnesdagen för Förintelsens offer

Minnesdagen för Förintelsens offer firades i Arken onsdagen den 28 januari 2026 i ett evenemang arrangerat i samarbete med Åbo judiska församling och Minnesföreningen för Förintelsen offer (HUM ry.). Kvällen samlade ca. 100 deltagare. Talare var Kornél Salamon, Pekka Lindqvist, Melissa Virtanen och Björn Vikström. Ordförande för Åbo judiska församing, Harry Serlo, önskade gäster välkomna. Instrumentalmusik spelades av Matti Holm (gitarr) och Antti Vesterinen (fiol). Jonah Bogle reciterade El Male Rachamim-bönen. Minnesljus tändes av elever från Pargas svenska gymnasium, teologiestuderanden vid Åbo Akademi, Henri Baran som representant för Åbo judiska församling, representanter för Institutum Judaicum samt HUM ry., Melissa Virtanen och Tamara Hagert som representerade Åboregionens romer rf., Kornél Salamon och Jonah Bogle.

 

An evening in commemoration of the eight deported Jews was held in Turku on November 6th, 2025

25 students, researchers, pupils of the upper secondary school (Klassillinen lukio), members of the Jewish community and other guests gathered on Thursday, November 6, to commemorate the eight deported Jews, who were handed over to Gestapo in Helsinki on November 6, 1942, and taken to Auschwitz. The ”stumbling stone” dedicated to Hans Szybilski (Installed in 2022) is istalled on the street at Vartiovuorenkatu 1, the location of his last home before the deportation. He and 6 others were murdered in Auschwitz. The evening continued in Auditorum Theologicum at ÅAU where the pupils of upper secondary school Katedralskolan joined in.

Holocaust Remembrance Day in Turku Synagogue, January 28, 2025

An event in remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust was arranged jointly by the Jewish community of Turku, Inistitutum Judaicum Aboense and the Memorial Association for the Victims of the Holocaust, HUM ry. Board member, Dr. Topias Tanskanen and Marja Segerholm, a student of Theology at ÅAU, represented Institutum Judaicum in the candle lighting ceremony.

27 students and guests gathered on Thursday, November 6, to commemorate  the eight deported Jews , who were handed over to Gestapo in Helsinki on Nov 6, 1942, and taken to Auschwitz. The ”stumbling stone” dedicated to Hans Szybilski (Installed in 2022) is on the street outside of the address Vartiovuorenkatu 1 in Turku, which became his last home before the deportation. He and 6 others were murdered in Auschwitz. The evening continued in Auditorum Theologicum. The main speaker of the evening was Dr. Mercédesz Czimbalmos (ÅAU), a leading expert on contemporary antisemitism in Finland.
