13 December: Doctoral Defence, Loukia Lindholm

M.A. Loukia Lindholm will publicly defend her doctoral thesis in English language and literature at the Faculty of Arts, Psychology and Theology at Åbo Akademi University. The thesis is entitled Form and Function of Response Stories in Online Advice. (Doria)

Professor Camilla Vásquez, University of South Florida, USA will serve as external examiner and professor Tuija Virtanen-Ulfhielm, Åbo Akademi University, as chair.

Subject Moot

Our first Subject Moot meeting this academic year will take place on Wednesday the 2nd of October at 16:15 in Arken Donner (M225).

The agenda will include

  • Attendance policy and deadlines
  • Events and seminars at the department

The Subject Moot meeting is open for all students, researchers and staff of English Language and Literature. If you would like to suggest topics to discuss, please send you suggestions by email to aino.tuomola@abo.fi. You can also suggest an issue to discuss during the meeting. Do come along!

Introductory lectures Monday 2 September 2019

The new academic year at the department starts with three introductory lectures on Monday 2 September:

  • New students: 9-10 in Westermarck (C101)
  • ‘Old’ BA students: 11-12 in Helikon (A202)
  • MA students: 12-13 in Helikon (A202)

The introduction is an important occasion where you will get a lot of essential information concerning your studies. So do come along!

Doctoral defence, 27 April 2019: Petter Skult

FM Petter Skult from English Language and Literature, Åbo Akademi University, will defend his doctoral thesis on Saturday, 27th April, at 13 in Auditorium Armfelt, Arken (Fabriksgatan 2 / Tehtaankatu 2).

The thesis is entitled: The End of the World as We Know It: Theoretical Perspectives on Apocalyptic Science Fiction.
The opponent is Professor Adam C. Roberts (Royal Holloway, University of London). Custos is Professor Anthony Johnson.

Apart from the lectio praecursoria in Swedish, the defence will take place in English.
